2011 Energy Tax Credit
Tax credits have been extended through 2011 to encourage energy-efficient home improvements. Window or door replacement with Marvin products may qualify for this tax credit. The incentive has been reduced to the pre-Economic Recovery Act level. Consumers can claim a credit of 10% up to $200 of the purchase price of qualifying windows, and 10% up to $500 for qualifying exterior doors. Installation costs are not included.
There is now a lifetime limit of $500 ($200 for windows) in total credits that a homeowner can claim from January 1, 2006 to December 31, 2011, excluding the $1,500 limit in 2009-2010. If a homeowner has already reached or exceeded the $500 limit, they are no longer eligible to claim the credit in 2011.
The $500 aggregate lifetime limit is for any combination of all tax credit qualifying products (HVAC, insulation, roofing, etc), not just windows and exterior doors. If you have claimed less than $500, you can claim the difference up to the $200 cap for the windows, and $500 for the exterior doors. Eligible windows and doors need to be ENERGY STAR-qualified products. See the files of qualifying windows and doors below.
Energy tax credits made available through the Economic Stimulus package (the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009) expired on December 31, 2010. To claim this credit you must meet requirements listed below. All windows and doors must have been installed by December 31st, 2010.

Stimulus Tax Credit Qualification
- Old windows and doors were replaced with qualifying Marvin LoĒ2-272® or LoĒ3-366®, Impact, or related energy enhancing products by December 31, 2010.
- Save the purchase receipt and all NFRC/Energy Star labels from the windows and doors installed.
- Print and file the Manufacturer’s Certification Statement pertaining to the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009.
Details of the Tax Credit
- The Stimulus Tax Credit is based on 30% of the product cost of Marvin windows and doors, up to $1,500. The credit is available on projects completed in 2009 and 2010 for a total of $1,500 over the two-year period.
- For example, a purchase price totaling $5,000 of qualifying products will receive the maximum tax credit of $1,500.
- Not all products in the project are required to meet a 0.30 U-value and 0.30 SHGC. Therefore, $5,000 of product that does qualify can be used with product that does not, yet the homeowner receives the maximum rebate.
- The credit applies to the homeowner’s principal residence only.
- A tax credit is a dollar-for-dollar reduction subtracted from your tax liability. Therefore, $1,500 can be subtracted directly from the amount of tax that is owed, or added to a tax refund.
